German Pansy Fee Coturnix Quail Hatching Eggs

Pansy is a autosomal recessive gene, meaning you need two copies of the gene for the bird to visually look Pansy. This gene is also located on the same locus as Extended Brown and Sparkly gene, meaning a bird can only have two of these genes at once; Homozygous for one or Heterozygous for two. 

Pansy Fee are known for their unique plumage, combining black, white and grey tones, driven by the "Fee" dilution Gene. Pansy with one copy of the Fee gene will retain some cream tones, whereas two copies of the Fee gene will remove any brown or red colour pigment from the plumage. 

All birds in this covey are Homozygous Pansy, with the  Rooster having one copy of Fee and the Hens either Heterozygous or homozygous Fee, giving you a combination of Pansy with either Heterozygous and Homozygous Fee. 

Across all chicks produced by the breeding group, you would expect approximately the following Phenotypes:

• 6.25% Pansy without Fee (+/+)
• 50% Pansy with one copy of Fee (+/Fee)
• 43.75% Homozygous Fee (Fee/Fee)
