Fawn Sparkly Coturnix Quail are a visually striking variety, combining the light tan "Fawn" (Italian/Manchurian) base colour with the "Sparkly" pattern gene. This combination results in a light-coloured bird with a distinctly shimmering or "sparkly" chest pattern, often described as having red or gold fireworks in the breast.
Fawn Italian/Manchurian-based birds are generally feather sexable at maturity, with hens showing dark speckles on their chest and roosters showing a more solid red or gold chest.
When one copy of Sparkly gene is combined with a fawn base, the entire bird's pattern becomes modified. This can make is more difficult to distinguish between heterozygous and homozygous individuals.
Fawn Sparkly does not "breed true" every time; it requires careful selection of parents to maintain high-quality plumage patterns.
