Pearl Fee (Fawn & Fee) Coturnix Quail are becoming an increasingly popular colour mutation known for their striking white, grey, and black plumage, driven by the "Fee" dilution gene.
This variety is feather sexable at 3-4 weeks, males develop dark, discolored heads and lack chest markings, while females develop black speckles on a white chest.
Pearl Fee Sparkly is a rare, visually striking variety known for their silvery-pearl plumage, black speckles, and the "sparkly" gene that adds a unique, high-contrast, barred pattern.
This colour variety can be tricky to feather sex and may require vent sexing.
Both varieties are considered productive layers to those looking for a backyard flock, producing a large number of quality eggs, if provided with the correct number of daylight hours.
The Rooster in this covey is Heterozygous Fawn and Fee (one copy of each gene). Hens are also Heterozygous Fawn and Fee and Heterozygous Fawn/Fee and Sparkly. This will create a variety of phenotypes including; Heterozygous/Homozygous Pearl Fee and Heterozygous/Homozygous Pearl Fee with Sparkly. A small proportion may also produce heterozygous Fawn (Italian) and homozygous Fawn (Golden Manchurian). The group may also contain recessive mutations not visibly seen.
