The Grau Fee (German for "Grey Fairy") is essentially a Tibetan/Rosetta quail with the Fee dilution gene, resulting in a dark, greyscale, or black-and-white plumage, often with distinct silver-grey stripes.

They are generally dark birds with a mix of black and grey, with the Fee gene removing most gold and brown pigment.

Grau Fee is not feather sexable and must be vent sexed at 6–8 weeks. They can be bred to hatch nearly true (approx. 90%), with a 10% chance of producing Grau Tuxedo.

Myrle (often spelled Merle or Myrle) is an incomplete dominant melanistic gene, meaning one copy still affects feather colour, often adding dark pigment and, in some cases, breast spotting on males. Unlike recessive blacks, breeding Myrle to other colors typically produces darker offspring, often appearing as "Black" or heavily marked, mottled varieties.
